Trap
We trap feral cats on small holdings and farms
Many of the programmes are centered around cat colonies on farms or small holdings
There are usually representatives to meet us, usually keeping their distance.
But not always, some are quite friendly, ‘like Smokey Jo’.
Some are friendly with the other residents, why clean yourself, when the calves will do it for you.
To start with identify the feeding points, and place the trays inside the cat traps.
Many of the cats are so friendly, that they can be picked up and simply placed in the cage.
If we catch young kittens, then we can place them in the same transfer cage for company.
For older cats, we can group them together to maintain social contact, in this case 4 from one farm and one from another.
Often, the landowner will trap a cat, place a blanket over the cage to keep it warm. This does not stop the rest of the family from keeping it company!
Once trapped the cats can be taken in the car to the vets, after placing a warm blanket over the cage to keep them warm.
This old fellow has been in a few fights and had no ears. He was very affectionate, but feeling sorry for himself.
If more than more cat is caught, then placing the cages next to each other during transfer may provide further comfort for them
Some cats are really affectionate, purr through the whole journey to the vets and seek comfort by making contact
Arrival at the Vets, maintaining COVID-19 protocols. No time to hang around!
Collection (after health check and worming and neutering) the following morning, still no time to hang around!
Back to the farm, there is usually somebody waiting!
Time, for release. Some cats run like hell (no photos) and some just stay put in the cage!
Almost all get a friendly reception.
One of the challenges, is that previously caught cats like going back into the cages! So, they are often get caught again.
Happy around cage as it has food !
Feral cats happy at home
Some particularly affectionate cats even follow you for a cwtch after release!
